Serfdom is abolished in Banat, but the land reform took place only in 1920.

The troops of the Hungarian revolutionary army are defeated on the battlefield between Dudestii Noi, Sanandrei and Becicherecul Mic. The battle held between 8 am to 4 pm. Receiving the news in Timisoara, General Artur Gorgey surrenders in Siria/Hellburg/Vilagos. The Austrian general Julius Haynau enters successfully in Timisoara.

The schwab inhabitants of Gertjanosch, Groß-Jetscha, Klein-Jetscha, Hatzfeld, Grabatz, Lowrin, Billed, Nakofalva, Csatat, Bogarosch, Gottlob, Alexanderhausen, Ostern addressed to emperor Franz Josef a document which is considered the first political document/manifestation of the schwabs from Banat: the "Petition von Bogarosch". A second document was elaborated on 8.11.1849 in Jimbolia. None will receive any answer. 

1849-1860 

Timisoara is the capital of the Serbian Voivodina and Timis's Banat/Serbische Wojwodina und Temescher Banat, actually of the entire new created Austrian imperial region which contained the counties of: Timis, Torontal, Caras-Severin, Bács-Bodrog, Srem. The military border was not included in this region. Banat is ruled directly by the imperial administration from Vienna.

The first postal stamps were used in Banat.

Stephan Jäger's birth in Cenei. He will die on 16.02.1962 in Jimbolia. In 1910 on his first important painting exhibition in Carpinis, Stephan Jäger had a tremendous success. He will keep focus his work on the life of schwabs in Banat in all aspects: daily life, customs, history. The picture which will bring him celebrity is the "triptych" [6m/1,4m] which represents 3 episodes of the colonization of the schwabs in Banat: the journey, the arriving and the house billing [today the painting can be seen at the Adam Müller Guttenbrunn House in Timisoara]. In 1969, the Jäger Museum was opened in Jimbolia. 

1877-1887 

Máté Bereczki [1824-1895], a fruit tree growing specials from Banat but well known in whole Europe, publish at Arad his books [4 volumes in which he will describe 1075 different sorts of trees]. He is the author of the Bereczki quince tree sort known worldwide. He worked around Cenad.

At Recas is also set up a volunteer fire brigade. Up to 1933 the fire brigade was formed only by schwabs. Between 1933-1955 only 3 romanians were members of this brigade. Today, only 5 of the 28 fireman's are romanians. The brigade still has a fireman Ford machine which was bought in USA in 1932. The old Ford is still functioning.

The hungarian Parliament issued a law to limit the activity of the emigration agents. These were obliged to have the approval [which, regularly, was not given!] of the Interior Ministry for their activity.

The well-known composer and pianist Bela Bartok was born in Sannicolau Mare. His father, born in Ujvar, dies in Sannicolau Mare – he was the director of the Agricultural School and his mother was a teacher. Bela Bartok’s first concert [in 1903] will take place in Sannicolau Mare. In 1940 Bartok emigrates in the USA, where he’ll die on 26.09.1945, being buried in New York. 

1881 

Construction of the educational complex and monastery of the Community of the “Notre Dame” Roman-Catholic Nuns located in the Iosefin district, according to the plans of architect Eduard Reiter. 

1882 

The railroads Sannicolau Mare-Timisoara and Sannicolau Mare-Arad are built. 

In Caransebes the electric light is used for house lighting.

The City Museum of Vrsac/Werschetz is established.

1883 

The Nako family builds in Sannicolau Mare a hospital – The Berta Public Hospital [located on the former hunting pavilion in memory of Kalman Nako and his wife, Gyertyanffy Berta]. The hospital was built also with donations from the Torontal County. At the beginning, the hospital had only 6 beds. The first doctor was the Nako family’s doctor, dr. Lovenstein. In 1896-'97 the hospital is widened up to 30 beds. The present hospital building was built in 1908-'10 [100 beds], project financed by Nako Sandor. In the 1970's the hospital’s capacity increases to over 300 beds.

The Orient Express Train is launched passing trough Banat: Szeged-Kikinda-Jimbolia-Timisoara-Caransebes-Orsova.

In Banat existed 253 postal offices and 48 telegraph offices: in Timis County 78-18; Torontal 116-19; Caras-Severin 61-11. Their activity:

-5,500,000 money orders paid off 

-170,000 telegrams sanded and 200,000 received.   

In Timisoara the horse-tramway had 711,393 customers [109,830 routes/362,448 km]. 

Only on the 9 main railroads in Banat existed in this year 1,113,264 passengers.

The Zsombolyai Körkörhas/Jimbolia's "Community Hospital" known also as the "Elisabetha" Hospital is opened [90 bad; 40 for surgery]; it is still functioning today. The founder of this hospital was Karl DIEL [B 14.02.1855, Jimbolia; D 1.05.1930, Jimbolia], which studied in Budapest between 1872-1878 and during his career performed more than 50.000 surgeries. In 1909 the surgery's section of the hospital had 100 bad and was equipped at the highest level [same as the big hospitals in Vienna and Budapest]. In 1940 the Jimbolia's inhabitants will raise a statute for Dr. Diel in front of the mayoralty.
